Hillcrest Commons Announces Crosby School Healthy Hero Drawing Competition Winners!

Hillcrest Commons and Crosby School presented the Healthy Hero coloring and drawing competition winners at the final school assembly. The Healthy Hero’s project involved every grade in the school. Kindergarten through 4th grade had an interactive presentation on health and physical activity before putting their creative skills to the test.

The aim of the project is to provide a healthy living program which conveys a range of positive health messages to young people in elementary school, including the importance of keeping physically active and leading a healthy lifestyle. The program has been shown to have a positive benefit in influencing the participants, and encouraging young people to take part in physical activity. Grade 5 students completed a task book earlier in the year and spent an afternoon working with Taconic High School Healthy Technology students and staff from Hillcrest Commons. The younger students had an afternoon with Admissions and Marketing Director, Deirdre Tozer-Hayes, in which they learned about physical activity and its affect on the body. The roadshow event included the young people doing heart raising activities, learning how to take their pulse and how often they should exercise. After, they got the opportunity to enter a coloring and drawing competition on Becoming a Healthy Hero.
